Dorothy Podber (1 settembre 1932 - 9 febbraio 2008) fu un'artista americana nata nel Bronx da una madre che ha tentato ripetutamente (e senza successo) di abortirla. Non è tanto la sua vita ad interessarmi, quando quello che fece nel 1964: arrivo alla Warhol Factory in East 47th Street vestita completamente in pelle nera da motociclista, tranne i guanti che erano candidi. Dopo esserseli lentamente tolti ha tirato fuori una piccola pistola e puntata prima contro Warhol, poi contro quattro opere appoggiate al muro, schiacciando il grilletto. Una delle opere a cui sparò, "Shot Red Marilyn" con un foro riparato sopra al sopraciglio sinistro, è stata venduta per 4 milioni di dollari nel 1989. E brava Dorothy.

Dorothy Podber (September 15, 1932 - February 9, 2008) was an American performance artist born in the Bronx to a mother who had tried repeatedly, but unsuccessfully, to abort her.

One day in late 1964 she arrived at the Warhol "Factory" on East 47th Street dressed in black motorcycle leathers, except for a pair of white gloves. After slowly removing her gloves, she pulled a small pistol out of her pocket, and aimed it at Warhol before swivelling to a stack of four paintings propped against the wall and pressing the trigger.

One of them, “Shot Red Marilyn,” with a repaired bullet hole over the left eyebrow, sold for $4 million in 1989.
